The Lodge Line
The Lodge is led each year by a line of officers, each charged with a station and a duty in the work of the Craft. The jewel of each office is shown below.
Worshipful Master
To be installed
Presides over the Lodge and governs its labors. Seated in the East, he is responsible for the good order of the Lodge and the instruction of the brethren.
Senior Warden
To be installed
Seated in the West, he assists the Master in governing the Lodge and presides in his absence. His jewel is the level, a symbol of equality.
Junior Warden
To be installed
Seated in the South, he observes the sun at meridian and calls the craft from labor to refreshment and back to labor. His jewel is the plumb, a symbol of uprightness.
Treasurer
To be installed
Receives and keeps the funds of the Lodge and pays them out at the Master's order. His careful stewardship sustains the Lodge's work.
Secretary
To be installed
Records the proceedings of the Lodge, keeps its correspondence, and maintains its records. His jewel is the crossed quills.
Chaplain
To be installed
Leads the Lodge in its devotions and attends to its spiritual welfare. His emblem is the open Volume of the Sacred Law.
Senior Deacon
To be installed
Carries messages from the Master in the East to the Senior Warden in the West, and attends to candidates as the Master's messenger.
Junior Deacon
To be installed
Carries messages from the Senior Warden to the Junior Warden and waits upon the Wardens, attending the door within.
Senior Steward
To be installed
Attends to the comfort of the brethren and assists in the preparation of candidates. His emblem is the cornucopia, the horn of plenty.
Junior Steward
To be installed
Assists the Senior Steward in the care of the Lodge and its guests, and in the work of refreshment.
Marshal
To be installed
Conducts processions and presents distinguished visitors, seeing that the ceremonies of the Lodge move with proper order.
Tyler
To be installed
Guards the door of the Lodge with a drawn sword, armed against the approach of the uninitiated, and admits only those duly qualified.
